51Talk Unveils its Premium Brand
Today, on its one year IPO anniversary, 51Talk announced the launch of its premium K12 brand “Hello World American Academy,” as well as a partnership with several companies to combat the “shady” practices often seen in the K12 education industry.
51Talk was established in 2011, and its official website was launched in November of that year, after receiving an angel investment from Xiaoping Xu, the co-founder of New Oriental. In May, 2016, 51Talk issued its prospectus, and on June 10 was successfully listed on the New York Stock Exchange with the ticker symbol COE, becoming the first Chinese online English brand to be listed on the NYSE. Furthermore, worldwide it was the first online education B2C company to achieve this milestone.

Reflecting on the IPO anniversary, Founder and CEO Jiajia Huang became emotional “In 2012, the internet was overturning many traditional industries, education among them. In 2016 consumer spending escalated further as online education became more widely accepted. Last year on this day, 51Talk stood at the crossroads of traditional K12 education and K12 parents’ increasing acceptance of online education, and we felt a deep sense of mission.” 51Talk subsequently joined the NYSE as the first listed online English company.
Jiajia Huang continued “Why education? It’s a question I constantly ask myself. For 51Talk, as a listed company, it’s not just about being responsible to the capital market, but also to the customer.”
According to Rapid Education, 51Talk’s American Academy was launch on May 2016, initially focusing on children ages 5-8. In August of the same year, Jiajia Huang announced that in the coming five years, 51Talk will make platformization its strategic objective, focusing especially on the K12 market.
This week, 51Talk upgraded this unique product line into a new brand, “Hello World American Academy,” expanding its curriculum to cover children ages 5-12, starting from true beginners and covering all of elementary school. It ‘s main focus is on high-end users.
At present, in addition to Hello World American Academy, 51Talk also offers two other product lines for young learners: Classic English Junior and NCE.
