How DJ Khaled, King of Snapchat, is Helping to Make Education Dreams Come True
Making a difference using positive influence; we love this story and couldn’t be more proud to share it. Thank you DJ Khaled-for making a difference helping students find their paths, follow their dreams and for giving back to the community in countless ways.
Get Schooled and Khaled bring student contest winner for the “Get Schooled Goes to Harvard” contest for first hand campus tour and attend “Khaled Keys Class” featuring Q & A with Harvard Business School’s Professor Anita Elberse.
DJ Khaled, Media Mogul and author of a NY Times best-seller, visited Harvard University to host his first ever Get Schooled Snapchat College Tour campaign, launched last month. Following the tour, Khaled helped students enroll in college application month. He was joined by Patricia Fuentes, a Cuban immigrant and honors high school student from Miami. Invited by student leaders of the Harvard Business School Media and Entertainment Club, Khaled hosted a “Khaled Keys Class” featuring a Q&A with Professor Anita Elberse, an expert in the media entertainment industry.
As Get Schooled’s national spokesperson, DJ Khaled has helped to shape Get Schooled’s groundbreaking initiative that uses Snapchat to provide students a more accessible way to experience college campuses. In an October survey of high school seniors, Get Schooled found that while 90% of seniors plan to attend college after high school, one in five has never actually visited a college campus. By using Khaled’s unparalleled social media expertise, Get Schooled’s unprecedented program will give millions of young people across the country an up close and personal college experience. The tour is viewable on the Get Schooled site.
More high school seniors than ever before recognize the importance of getting an education beyond high school, but many have limited exposure to the college experience”, said Marie Groark, Executive Director of Get Schooled. “By harnessing DJ Khaled’s expertise and the Snapchat platform, we are able to connect more young people with the support they need to make college a reality.”
Following the campus tour, Khaled participated in a private student-hosted event at Harvard Business School, featuring a live interview with Professor Anita Elberse, focused on the entertainment industry.
Get Schooled invited Miami resident and Hialeah Gardens High School student, Patricia F., to tour Harvard with Khaled. Patricia, an honors student who moved from Cuba to the US with her mother when she was five years old, won the “Get Schooled Goes to Harvard contest” based on her answer to the question: How will a trip to Harvard impact your future focus? “Throughout my schooling, I have not allowed my financial status to limit my opportunities, rather it has motivated me to find programs like Get Schooled that will help low-income students obtain their goals,” Patricia wrote. “A trip to Harvard will enable me to obtain an overview of the campus life in person, something that would not be possible otherwise.”
Get Schooled has already led Get Schooled Snapchat College Tours at nearly 20 college and universities since November 1, including Howard University, University of Pennsylvania, and the Tuskegee Institute, garnering over 400,000 views. Ninety percent of students who have engaged with the tours cite the tours as being helpful or very helpful. “It was great to see what college actually looked like”, said Elvira, a New York City student who viewed the tours.
As part of Khaled’s ongoing partnership with Get Schooled, Khaled and Get Schooled have also teamed up to create Get Schooled’s Khaled Keys to Success – monthly badges that students can earn that encourage them to explore themes tide to success. A new key is released each month. This month’s key is the Key to Identity: when it comes to success one of the first keys is to know thyself. More than 200,000 students have viewed the badges since they launched in October 2016. Students who have earned all of the Khaled Keys to success to date have the chance to purchase a copy of Khaled’s book “The Keys” in the Get Schooled reward store.

About “The Keys”
Written in the upbeat and positive tone for which he is known, THE KEYS reveals Khaled’s philosophy for success. Weaving in stories and lessons from his own life as well as commentary from famous friends—Sean “Diddy” Combs, Dre, L.A. Reid, Jay Z, and Fat Joe to name just a few—Khaled breaks down all his major keys (and a few bonus keys for good measure).
