Working too much or not at all
It is no wonder we are about to fall
We are on the computer, on the couch or texting on our phone
A family in one room all together can no longer call their house a home
Disconnected we’ve become as a race
Only to now look at our computers or phones as a face
Our kids with too much energy are medicated at the age of 3
When did this happen? How could this be?
Helicopter parents and those who cannot be there
Our kids are overly praised, spoiled or neglected; simply too much to bare
Our minds are not our own, as there is a pill now for every tear
When did we stop crying, laughing and simply let others know we are here?
Republicans and Democrats and all of those in between
We all want the same thing, stop fighting, and we can have the dream
Our children need love but do not need to be smothered
We must teach them responsibility, kindness and how to treat one another
Bullying will decrease if parents set the tone
Give time and attention to your kids, guide them, but don’t put them on a throne
Teach honesty, values and show them the right thing to do
Be the example, and our society will follow too
This culture is out of place, off balance, and there is no more space
A space for a more simple time, as we are constantly running a race
Where are we going and what will we do when we get there?
We are chasing dreams, money and objects. When do we stop to care?
Visit your family, hug your child every day and be there for your friends
Cherish every moment, feel the sun, stare at the trees, as we never know when it can end
Be the epitome of who you want your children to be
We have all been given a gift; the gift of you and me
