If you did not graduate from high school, you may believe that your future employment will be forever stunted. Although it can take more effort and time to advance economically, you still have learning and employment options. With determination, research, and planning you can still achieve your educational and work goals.

On-The-Job Training

If you do not have immediate plans to gain a more formal education, then becoming employed at a job that will gain you marketable skills is an option. Some of these roles can include construction work, painting, laying cable, auto mechanics, machine operation, and many similar types of entry-level work. If you already possess computer skills such as programming, graphic design, and electronics repair, you can use these skills to bring in revenue, and gain work experience for your resume. Formal training in any of these professions can always be a future option.

Get Your GED

Getting a General Education Diploma (GED) is always possible, no matter how long you’ve been out of school. Most employers will accept a GED in lieu of a high school diploma. When you successfully pass GED subject matter tests, you will receive your GED. If you decide to go this route, there are different ways to study for your GED, including attending traditional classes offered during the day, evening and online classes. Many sites offer these classes for free.

Enroll In Technical School

Many colleges and technical schools are open for admission to non-traditional students and do not require a high school diploma or GED. They may require placement tests, though. If you do not pass the placement tests, you can be required to take a preparatory class before enrolling in the regular classes. Some of these colleges are online only; students need to be careful the school is not a “diploma mill” type of school, wherein the school churns out graduates with minimal skills and job opportunities. Research schools to ensure they are accredited.

Regardless of your starting path, there are job and career informational programs that can help you on your journey,

Today is the day to plan for your future!
