Clinicians and teachers are responsible for analyzing and evaluating childhood behavior to determine if the child in question struggles with any type of developmental delay. This is a lengthy process, but it is important because early intervention is proven to help children overcome many of the obstacles they face as a result of their delays. WPS offers tests to help clinicians and teachers perform comprehensive evaluations so they can help their students thrive. Although these tests are designed to help professionals evaluate kids, here are three ways the tests benefit children.

Streamlined Evaluations

Educational and psychological assessments take a significant amount of time to complete. The administrator must evaluate the child’s cognitive function in addition to expressive and recessive language skills. If enough information cannot be gathered in a single session, the therapist may have to conduct several sessions, increasing the amount of time the child has to wait for intervention.

WPS evaluations streamline the evaluation process. These tests are made up of forms that the clinician or teacher can complete quickly and easily while the child plays. This format makes it easy for administrators to analyze areas of strength and areas that need improvement. There is no longer a need for administrators to use multiple tests of forms to form a comprehensive analysis of the child’s developmental delays so the process flows more smoothly.

More Accurate Diagnosis

There are many reasons children experience developmental delays. Some children are on the autism spectrum while others struggle with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Others experience significant speech delays due to physical impairments. The treatment and therapy recommended for the child depends on the diagnosis. Children with developmental delays in fine or gross motor skills will benefit most from occupational therapy, while those who struggle with language require speech therapy.

If the initial evaluation is not done properly, there is a chance the child could be misdiagnosed. The recommended therapy may be beneficial, but the child will still struggle until the correct diagnosis is made. In some cases, a wrong diagnosis can go unnoticed for several years. This puts that child behind in the therapy that will be most beneficial. WPS tests are designed to help administrators reach an accurate diagnosis quickly so the child can receive the right therapy.

Early Intervention

Studies show that children with developmental delays who receive therapy at an early age are more likely to make significant strides in development as they get older. Although many parents often assume their children will eventually catch up to their peers in terms of development, this is not always the case and some children need therapy in order to learn certain skills. WPS tests can be performed on young children so an early diagnosis can be made. This allows parents, teachers and clinicians to develop an individualized assessment and treatment program designed to meet the needs of the child. With this early intervention, many children can learn the skills they need to thrive as they grow.
