New Podcast Episode: What Really Happened with Quarantine & Education
Listen to the new EduJedi Leadership Society Podcast
Special Guest: Senator Howard Stephenson, Utah
LeiLani Cauthen and Senator Howard Stephenson of Utah discuss concerns about the sudden shift of all schools to remote learning, and what it really means for the future.
Cauthen: Today we’re going to talk about what really happened with the quarantine and schools shutting down for so long now in America and what it really means. And so, I’ve invited Senator Howard Stevenson from the great state of Utah. He has excellent knowledge about what is going on in the software side of adaptive digital curriculum. It has a lot to say about what’s happened in Utah. So tell us what’s going on in Utah, Howard?
Senator Stephenson: If I go postal, I think I would convince the jury that I was right. This digital teaching and learning river is a mile wide and an inch deep in most places. And yet, people, parents, consumers and teachers and school systems as consumers think that it’s all the same. When, what I have found is that the thing you need to focus on is those tools that provide immediate interactive, adaptive feedback while the student is doing the work. It’s not about PDFs online. It’s not about worksheets. It’s not about even project-based learning for that matter. Because project-based learning does not give you the full competency in math concepts or in English language arts concepts. It’s important, but it’s not enough.
