One of the most interesting pieces of information gleaned from Super Tuesday 2016 came from Google Data Editor Simon Rogers. Rogers reported, via his Twitter account, that U.S.-based Google searches for the phrase “how to move to Canada” spiked more than 350% as polling results trickled in on Tuesday night. By midnight, the search term had spiked over 1000%. Whether it’s the prospect of a Trump or Clinton presidency that has them feeling so unpatriotic, it sounds like there are quite a few Americans are considering jumping ship.

So where shall a disheartened young American go for 4 years? What can he or she do with this time? One appealing option is to pack the bags and head to Europe, where American youth can now earn their bachelor’s degrees at a fraction of the cost as in the States.

There are now over 350 accredited schools throughout non-Anglophone Europe that offer English-conducted bachelor’s degree programs. These programs offer high-quality education, a unique opportunity for a young person to travel through Europe, and, most excitingly, they are available to Americans for tuition rates that are far more affordable than those at U.S. schools.

Of the 350 schools offering English-language degree programs, 44 are entirely tuition-free. An additional 98 school offer tuition at under $4,000 per year, which is still well less than the average American annual college tuition.

One added bonus: most European bachelor’s degree programs take only three years to complete (compared to the traditional four years at American schools). A student can spend three years studying hard and earning a degree and one year exploring the canals of Venice, eating croissants in Parisian cafes, viewing world-class art at Viennese museums, learning flamenco dance in Seville and fine-tuning their German language skills in Berlin. By the time he or she returns to the States, (s)he’ll have a strong edge in the job market and the experiences of a lifetime under his belt. Right in time for Inauguration Day 2021.

Jennifer Viemont is co-founder of Beyond The States, a website that offers a comprehensive searchable database of more than 1,500 accredited, bachelor’s degree programs taught in English throughout Europe.
